Fiduciary Standard of Care
Twin Cities Retirement Group is a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA). Therefore, we are required by law to follow a fiduciary standard of care. As a fiduciary, we must, at all times, act for the sole benefit and interests of our clients. Our fiduciary duty is the highest standard of care in our industry. This is the same standard of care required of physicians, attorneys, and CPA’s. A level of responsibility above that of a traditional “broker”. It is a relationship of loyalty, trust and confidence.
The elimination of conflicts of interest is crucial when dealing with your life savings. We have no proprietary interest in anything we recommend. We are not employees of: a bank, brokerage firm, mutual fund or insurance company. We do not earn commissions to sell you a product; we are paid a fee to give you the unbiased advice you need to be successful in retirement. We only work for you!
Our Custodian
Twin Cities Retirement Group has selected Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. as primary custodian for our clients’ accounts. Schwab Advisor Services serves independent investment advisory firms like ours and includes the custody, trading and support services of Charles Schwab & Co., Inc.. Schwab has more than 30 years of experience serving independent advisors and was a pioneer in the business of exclusively serving independent, fee-based investment advisors and their clients.
Our 3M Focus
At Twin Cities Retirement Group, we understand you have put in decades of hard work to make your retirement a reality. That is why we believe you deserve the highest level of specialized guidance at this critical time in your life.
Our level of specialization sets us apart. Many advisors offer retirement services, but very few focus exclusively in this area. Retirement financial planning has been the sole focus of our group since the company was founded.
We have further refined our level of specialization by choosing to work only with pre-retirees/retirees from 3M Company and Solventum. This provides us with a unique level of knowledge regarding our clients' 3M and Solventum retirement plan.
Our job is to help you navigate every step of the retirement planning process and make your financial and life transition as simple and productive as possible. Let our experienced retirement financial professionals help when it matters most!
Our Team
Patrick Illies
To say Patrick is passionate about retirement financial planning would be an understatement! He has spent the entirety of his 20+ year career helping people successfully transition to retirement. After beginning his journey as an apprentice on one of the country’s leading retirement planning teams, he founded Twin Cities Retirement Group in 2005.
Patrick had a unique vision for the company. An ultra-specialized firm dedicated to working with pre-retirees and retirees from only one company. Like many Minnesotans, Patrick grew up admiring 3M Company’s amazing products and legacy. It was the perfect fit!
When he’s not crafting retirement plans for 3Mers, you’ll likely find him watching his daughter on the volleyball court or his two boys on the golf course. Patrick, his amazing wife, and their three children live in Maple Grove with their French Bulldog, Luna.
Thomas Sjoberg
Thomas began his journey with Twin Cities Retirement Group as a college intern. He earned degrees from the University of Saint Thomas in Finance and Real Estate.
Upon graduation, Thomas began his full-time career with TCRG and has been with the firm for nearly a decade.
Thomas is dedicated to building long-lasting relationships with our clients. While he excels in the area of retirement financial analysis, his true passion is working with each client individually to help them achieve their own personal retirement goals and dreams.
When he’s not working with clients, you’ll find Thomas up at the cabin on Lake Vermilion, on the golf course, or reading history and adventure books at his home in Edina.
Avery & Gina
Avery started with Twin Cities Retirement Group as a college intern. She joined us full-time after earning a Finance degree from the University of St. Thomas.
Her radiant smile and outgoing personality make her an irreplaceable addition to our team, while her attention to detail allows her the ability to provide help to both our clients and advisors.
When not assisting our clients and advisors, you’ll find her spending time with her family and friends, traveling the world, and reading books by the lake.
Gina is the ray of sunshine that brightens our office each day. Her overwhelming positivity and warm heart make her an invaluable part of our team. “I just love that we get to help people every day we come to work!”
When not assisting our advisors, Gina is likely off on a fun adventure with her husband and three children. You can also find her teaching an evening dance class or two, where she is adored by all her young students.
